Improvement of the pairing tool
Hello,
I am happy to announce you that I have been able to improve a lot the pairing tool we used in Serbia.
1) There is a graphical interface! (still to be improve, but anyone can use it now)
2) After optimizing the source code, computation time is around 30 seconds (from 6,5 minutes before), so there is no more need to precompute things, and this means we can change a value for a pairing anytime, which is quite good!

Re: Improvement of the pairing tool
Are you willing to share the source code?
If you need some help, let me know.
What I can see from the screenshot, it looks interesting.

Are you familiar with C++ and wxWidget?

That looks great Dim! Especially the reduced computing time
Really, good job! Look forward to be able to understand what's going on during the pairing haha

C++ I know quiet well, but I never used wxwidget.
I think I can understand it very soon. I worked more than 2 years with c++

Re: Improvement of the pairing tool
Ok.
So I have to say that my code is maybe not the cleanest nor the more efficient and is not documented
So I can share the source code but I am not sure you will really like it Maybe I have to write a class tree before.
I think for the pairing tool part, it is nearly finished and I just need to add some functionalities, so I am not sure it is a good idea to invest some time in sharing the code versus finishing it by myself.
The other project I have in mind is something to help us enter the result by matchup.
This year I asked for a kind of XML file to the players because I had not the time to make a helper for that, and it was kind of a nightmare to collect the data. ( I finished 6 hours before the start of ETC).
This could also use some statistics from the previous etc to give an idea to the player for the match up he is unsure about and can prevent some mistake.

Re: Improvement of the pairing tool
Great effort DIM!
About the tool to collect data - I think it is not very wise, to use last years statistics as an predictor for the next ETC. That would assume, that no meaningful Errata and no new books come out, the ETC comp is mainly unchanged and the metagame stays the same. We have seen, that this evolves rapidly and list concepts change dramatically. Thus the prediction will become invalid.
I would rather suggest, that some of the more experienced players like e.g. Alan make a general estimation matrix of each army against each army and use this as your guideline. Ideally this list can be discussed and evolved here in the forum.
